Alan Shearer's message to Harry Kane speaks volumes as Spurs exit leaves record in tact

Jun 21, 2023

Alan Shearer’s all-time Premier League goalscoring record now seems safe for the time being following Harry Kane’s move to Bayern Munich and the former had some words for the ex-Spurs star

Alan Shearer has declared Harry Kane "the best" after his big-money move to Bayern Munich was confirmed.

The England captain’s switch to the Allianz Arena was made official on Saturday morning after a deal of around £100m was agreed between the two clubs. Kane leaves North London second in the all-time Premier League goalscorers list.

The 30-year-old has 213 top-flight goals to his name and was previously hunting down Shearer’s record of 260. He now appears highly unlikely to reach that any time soon having put pen to paper on a four-year contract in Bavaria. After the move was made official, Kane took to Twitter with a short message for his club’s new supporters.

He wrote: “Been an incredible welcome for me and my family in Munich in the last 24 hours! Buzzing to have signed for such a massive club with an incredible history, can't wait to get started! #miasanmia.”

Shearer was among those to have replied to that message. The former Newcastle and Blackburn star wrote: “You’re the best Harry. Good luck. You deserve success.”

It is not the first time that Shearer has had his say on Kane’s switch to Germany. As speculation ramped up earlier this week, he took to Twitter with a mocked up image of himself as a pilot standing by a private jet. This was accompanied by the jokey retort: “Come on Harry it’s time to go!”

Kane could potentially be in line for a very quick debut for his new side. Bayern take on Bundesliga rivals RB Leipzig in the German SuperCup on Saturday evening.

Former Swansea and Everton defender Ashley Williams has suggested that Kane could still break the Premier League goalscoring record should he return to England. He might have to keep a close eye on Man City sensation Erling Haaland though.

Speaking on Football Focus, Williams said: “He [Kane] could come back and pick it up but by then, probably Erling Haaland has already beat everyone. Those things are nice and they’re amazing accolades to be on that board and stuff like that but at the end of the day, he’s got to do what he feels is best for him and his career.

The new top has been claimed to "build on more than a century of tradition" and is a fresh update to the iconic kit that gave Spurs the nickname, the Lilywhites. There's a subtle but distinct linework pattern running through the new shirt that's said to have been inspired by "the borough’s vibrant music scene and streetwear culture of the borough of Tottenham"

“Whether that was a change, he obviously feels that is the right thing. He’s gone to a massive club, such a successful club anyway, that he’s only going to add to them.

“It’ll just be a case of settling down and just play in the game. It’s a quick turnaround for him but he’s a goalscorer. He’s going to get ammunition, he’s going to get fed and he’ll score goals.”
